A Typical Sex Change Post-Op Itinerary in Thailand:
What International Patients Can Expect
If you’re considering undergoing sex reassignment surgery (SRS) in Thailand, you might be wondering what a typical journey looks like—from landing in Bangkok to flying home with a renewed sense of self. With years of experience supporting international trans patients, our team at APS Gender Care has created a detailed and supportive itinerary to guide you through every step.
Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or you’re already diagnosed and preparing for surgery, this guide will give you a realistic idea of what your “sex change post op itinerary” will look like—designed with your safety, comfort, and long-term healing in mind.
Sex Change Post-Op Itinerary:
What Documents Are Needed?
Before we get into your daily schedule, let’s talk paperwork. In Thailand, two psychiatric evaluations are legally required for any gender-affirming surgery:
✅ One evaluation/diagnosis from your home country confirming gender dysphoria.
✅ One evaluation by a Thai psychiatrist, which we arrange for you on-site at APS Gender Care.
If you already have a diagnosis and have socially transitioned, the Thai evaluation is usually just a formal step. But it’s important and required by law, so we make sure it’s handled with care and respect.

How to Prepare Before You Fly
To ensure your body is ready for a safe and successful surgery, you’ll need to follow a few important guidelines:
- Stop HRT (hormone therapy): Your doctor will advise when to stop, but typically it’s a few weeks to a couple of months before surgery. This reduces blood-clotting risks during surgery.
- No smoking: Quit at least 1 month prior to improve healing and reduce complications.
- No alcohol or vitamins: Stop all alcohol and supplements 2 weeks before your flight.
- Medical clearance: We’ll help you get a checklist to share with your doctor at home for any tests you might need before traveling.
